Marking IWD 2024 by spotlighting female team members

In honour of International Women’s Day, BizCubed is shining a spotlight on female team members. We’re asking about their experience at BizCubed and their thoughts on IWD.  Today we hear from our Marketing Manager, Leigh-Ann Fowle.

Q. Tell us how you came to work at BizCubed.
A. I have been in the tech space for a while, but I was looking for a new challenge. I had a couple of key criteria for my new workplace, in addition to looking for a suitable role. I wanted to work for a company that celebrates diversity and understands the challenges facing working parents. BizCubed fits that bill.

Q. How is your role at BizCubed different to your previous roles?
A. There is a great deal of flexibility at BizCubed. We are a very structured, cadenced organisation but, at the same time, if I have family commitments, the organisation is very accommodating.

Q. How do you see diversity at BizCubed?
A. I love the diversity at BizCubed. Not only is there strong female leadership (under our CEO Rebecca Zeus) but there are people from all walks of life, people from Australia, the UK, North America and countries around the Asia Pacific region. It makes for a great company culture

Q. Do you feel a sense of equality and egalitarianism at BizCubed? Do you feel that BizCubed invests in its employees equally?
A. As a female member of the management team, of course I am pleased that such opportunities exist in this organisation. And I know we are focused on IWD, but it’s important to note and to value that the focus on diversity at BizCubed goes beyond gender and culture to extend to diversity of thought, skill set and career path.

Q. Do you have a perspective on IWD that you would like to share?
A. I think we have to take IWD in conjunction with a look at how the world of work needs to change to accommodate a diverse workspace. If a company wants more women in leadership positions, then it might also need to accommodate flexible hours to allow its people to prioritise their family needs. If a company welcomes diversity of thought then it may need to alter its communication tools and practices to encourage openness or provide a safe space to speak up. Effectively prioritising diversity means enabling it by taking a good hard look at practices and biases that may be preventing it.
