Marking IWD 2024 by spotlighting female team members

In honour of International Women’s Day, BizCubed is shining a spotlight on female team members. We’re asking about their experience at BizCubed and their thoughts on IWD.  Today we hear from Junior Data Engineer Teresa Cheung.

Q. Tell us how you came to work at BizCubed.
A. I was working in the legal industry for a while, but I realised that I have an interest in technology and wanted to develop my career in the IT industry. So I enrolled in a Master of Computer Science to prepare myself. Data management and data engineering were some of my favourite topics during my studies. After graduation, I joined BizCubed where I can explore the field of data engineering and continue to learn.

Q. How is your role at BizCubed different to your previous roles?
A. I had a career change from working as a legal secretary and administrative assistant in the legal industry to data engineering and this is my first data engineer role. The nature of the job is completely different. I was mostly involved in documents and contracts in my previous roles. At BizCubed, I apply my data engineering knowledge to deliver projects and solve problems. While my previous role is completely different from role at BizCubed, there are skills I apply to my current role as a junior data engineer. Organisational skills, attention to detail and customer delights are common elements of excellence in both roles.

Q. How do you see diversity at BizCubed?
A. BizCubed is very diversified and inclusive. We welcome people from various background, culture and ideas. We all have unique points of view. I really enjoy such an environment as we can have various opinions and see things from a global perspective. I can always learn new things from the team, and we always come up with creative ideas.

Q. Do you feel a sense of equality and egalitarianism at BizCubed?
A. Everyone here has different backgrounds and life experiences, but we are all treated equally. I never feel excluded in discussions or like I am being given different opportunities.

Q. Do you feel that BizCubed invests in its employees equally?
A. We have sufficient resources for our professional development and the team is more than happy to help each other to grow.

Q. Do you have a perspective on IWD that you would like to share?
A. I really love the IWD2024 theme Inspire Inclusion – one of a number of themes out there this year. A sense of belonging is very powerful, and I would like to inspire others to realise its importance.
